Frederick Remer

Frederick was born on March 12, 1876 in Taloski, Russia, a German settlement along the Volga River in Russia.

On January 16, 1897, Frederick married Lydia Penneckerstein in Saumorj, Russia. Saumorj was yet another German settlement along the Volga River. In that town, Frederick and Lydia started their family with their oldest son John, born in 1904. During the life in Russia, their eldest son passed away. In later years Frederick Jr. (1910) and Alexander (1912) joined the family.

In late June 1913, Frederick and his family boarded the S.S. Cincinnati from Hamburg, Germany to Boston MA, USA. From there they traveled to Saginaw, MI. Soon the family grew with eight more children (Jacob - 1915, Otilis - 1917, David - 1919, Edward - 1919, Rheinhold - 1921, Albertina - 1923, Leonard - 1926, and John - 1927). Frederick's occupation was foundry sweeper (according to the 1930 census).

In Russia and on the SS Cincinnati shiplist, his last name was Romer. Somewhere between arriving in Boston and settling in Saginaw, the 'o' changed to an 'e' in his last name.

Frederick pettitioned for nationalization in Freeland, MI. He was nationalized on January 12, 1942 in Midland County, Michigan. Just two short years later, on July 17, 1944, Frederick passed away.

Frederick now rests in the Oakwood Cemetery in Saginaw, MI.
